MARUNI TEMPERED GLASS

Maruni Tempered Glass is processed by heating glass to its transition stage (610-650 degrees Celsius), and then cooling it rapidly with blasts of air through specially designed air nozzles. This gives the glass high surface stress and tensile strength and it becomes four to five times stronger than annealed glass of the same thickness.

Benefit:
  • Maruni adopts the Tam Glass (Glasston) horizontal tempering process.
  • Once breakage occurs, the glass disintegrates into small cubical fragments
    which are relatively harmless to human body
  • It withstands abrupt change of temperature. For example, a piece of 5mm
    tole-rates the temperature variations within the range of 200°C
  • Tempered glass should undergo heat soak to improve safety in use

MARUNI HEAT STRENGTHEN GLASS

Specification

Heat Strengthened glass, due to the special process it goes through, has high impact and shock resistance properties and is at least two times stronger than annealed glass. Due to its medium tensile strength it is very safe as it does not fall from its frame even if it breaks, making it ideal for use in glazing. It is also capable of withstanding temperature differences up to 20 degree Celsius on its surface. While its medium surface stress makes it resistant to scratches, sudden impacts, shocks and wind pressure during storms. Heat strengthened glass is very popular among the professional designers due to all these properties.

Additonally, this process also dishmishes the probability of glass spontaneous breakage caused by Nickel Sulfide (Nis).

MARUNI BENDING TEMPERED GLASS

Maruni Glass has introduced Bending and Tempering system, a horizontal bending and tempering glass processor. MARUNI OPTIMUS GLASS

Specification

Maximum Size: 2700mm x 5000mm

Optimus is an energy-efficient glazing system, with excellent thermal insulation and noise reduction. It is made with two or more plies of glass, separated by a spacer that is filled with desiccant to isolate glass. At the same time, hollow portion is filled with dry air or inert gas and sealed with butyl rubber, poly sulfide rubber and structural adhesive to ensure is air tight. It is possible to combine Optimus with tempered glass, heat-strengthened glass, laminated or even curved glass. However, for higher performance glass Optimus is best suited with combination of Low-E Glass.

Benefit:
  • Optimus is of flawless quality with high degree of resistance to heat, retarding the flux of heat during the summer and heat loss during winter. It saves electricity being used for heating or cooling by decreasing air to air heat transfer. The air enclosed within the insulated glass panes makes insulating capability twice that of monolithic glass. Therefore load of air-conditioning is greatly reduced, with insulating glass; the insulating effect of air layer makes it tough for the glass to become cold and is relatively difficult for dew condensation.

MARUNI HEAT SOAK

Specification

Maruni Heat Soak Treatment employs the heat soak testing system to detect the occasional occurrence of nickel sulfide (Nis) inclusions in tempered glass. Under strictly controlled temperatures, high-temperature β-Nis converts to low – temperature β-Nis which accompanies a 2-4% expansion in volume and causes the glass to break if the inclusion is located at a tensile stress. The test reduces the frequency of spontaneous breakage of tempered glass after installation. Tempered glass is heat-soaked for 2-8 hours (†2) at a constant temperature of 290°±10° and then allowed to return to room temperature over a specified time.

MARUNI LAMINATED SAFETY GLASS

The polyvinyl film used in Maruni laminated glass is clear and reliable. It does blister or in any way disturb the total clarity of the glass sheets. This superb Polyvinyl Butryal (PVB) films are manufactured by world renowned PVB makers: Dupont, Solutia and Trosifol.

All these outstanding features make Maruni laminated safety glass the perfect product whenever a safety glazing materials are needed. Maruni Laminated Safety Glass is  a high safety glass. And laminated glass does not break as ordinary glass does. It absorbs all impacts and remains intact even after breaking.

Triple Laminated Glass consists of three layers of glass with a layer of plastic film in between each between each glass to which the glass adheres. The laminated glass can be manufactured using regular glass or toughened glass depending on the application. Regular triple laminated glasses are suitable for applications which require higher factor of safety such as security windows, flooring, staircase, etc.

Triple Strengthened Laminated Glass consists of three layers of glass with a layer of pvb and strengthened interlayer in between. This interlayer increases the tensile and elastic strength, delays intrusion and hence represents an effective barrier. The strengthened laminated glass can be manufactured using regular glass or toughened glass depending on the application. These are suitable for applications which require higher factor of safety such as crime prevention glass, bulletproof glass, etc.

Triple laminated bending Glass consists of three layers of glass with a layer of plastic film in between each between each glass to which the glass adheres. The triple laminated bending glass can be manufactured using regular glass or toughened glass depending on the application. Triple bending laminated glasses are suitable for applications which require higher factor of safety glass such as curved glass wall, curved railing, etc.

SANDBLASTING

Hot Glass Design products can be sandblasted
to give a frosted/etched effect to the glass.

Sandblasting can be done to the smooth or textured side of the panel. All our sandblasted glass panels are “CLEARSHIELDtm” coated. Creating a non-stick easy to clean surface, which is chemically inert to most substances. Resists staining by finger marks etc. – Preserving it’s beautiful appearance.

V-GROOVE GLASS

V-Grooving – by utilizing CNC equipment V-groove glass may be produced to replicate any design. V-grooved glass may be used in exterior doorlites, interior French or Patio doors. Glass grooving is not an edging process, but uses similar polishing and grinding technology in producing decorative grooves (patterns) or plate grooves (straight) on the surface of glass. The depth of the groove is related to the thickness of the glass, and it is not recommended to be fabricated on glass less than 1/8″ thick.

The Brilliant Cutting Process

Brilliant cutting, the process of wheel engraving sheets of plate glass, was first introduced to this country during the 1850s by Mark Bowden of Bristol. There was nothing inherently new about the technique; the process of engraving hollow-ware glass and mirrors was an old established craft. Its application on flat glass however, was confined to a comparatively small scale. The proliferation of cast glass in the 19th century provided the opportunity to apply this craft on an architectural scale.

Brilliant cutters used engraving wheels made from carboniferous sandstone that varied in diameter from 5 to 90cm. Each stone created a particular effect. Generally the large stones were used for straight lines and gentle curves and the smaller stones for tighter curves. The profile of the cutting edge was either round, square or mitred.

were used mostly for line work and for making leaf forms. Only one side of the wheel was used, which resulted in a groove that was deep on one side and gradually sloping off to nothing on the other. In the case of curves the deep side was on the inner side of the arc. Ogee curves therefore presented a difficult challenge as the worker had to change from one side of the wheel to the other and skilfully splice the two cuts in a way that did not interfere with the design

Cutting wheels were lubricated with water and were run on a shaft supported by a wooden or iron frame. Small glass sheets were hand-held over the cutting wheel, while large sheets were held in a sling suspended from a counterbalanced beam on the ceiling above the cutting lathe, allowing the craftsmen to manage them with ease whilst engraving the design.

Once the design was engraved to the correct depth, the cuts were then smoothed and finally polished. Smoothing was done in a similar way to engraving using willow wheels and ground pumice. These wheels had to match the profile of the cut. Once smooth, the cuts were polished with a revolving fibre brush impregnated with a polishing compound, usually rouge.

Brilliant cutting was (and still is) a highly skilled and labour-intensive process. Each cut required a different wheel and sometimes these had to be custom-made to suit the particular job in hand. However, the process did not always stop there. With the exception of flashed glass (see the first illustration, top of page), most brilliant cut work had a frosted background. If this was to be of a single tone the sheet was usually mechanically abraded using emery flour in a process akin to ’emboss and ground’ (see above). Frequently though, brilliant cut sheets were acid embossed either with a clear etch or white acid and triple emboss. Areas of the design were sometimes gilded and often the whole sheet was silvered to produce a decorative mirror.

The Victorians’ delight in decorative richness has not been shared by subsequent generations who judged it to exceed the bounds of good taste. There were many poor examples of the craft, as there were in all the trades, but at their best, brilliant cutting and acid etching combined both originality and excellence in design and craft. Regrettably precious few examples have survived to the present day.



FIGURED GLASS

Also known as “patterned” or “ornamental” glass, figured glass is generally produced by the rolling process (see “rolled glass”). The surfaces of the rollers used carry the pattern or design to be “imprinted” in the glass as it passes between them. The process gives the glass a textured surface on one or both sides. The surface finish may be both decorative and functional. Apart from the huge variety of patterns possible, figured glass can also offer light dispersion and glare reduction characteristics.

FITTINGS

Frameless glass doors can be installed with rails and/or patch fittings as per Type A, B, C or S and come in a variety of finishes including anodised, powder coated, plated brass and stainless steel finishes. Marine grade stainless steel is recommended for where the air has a high salt content.



HANDLES

Standard handles are usually ‘D’ shaped back to back, 32mm diameter handles, 300mm in length. The standard finish is satin stainless steel. A wide range of alternative lengths, shapes and colours are available on request.
